President's Report, October 2019: The next ten years.
Mission of BFI: Does the mission need to be updated or priorized? It is straight out of The BC Farmers Institute Act. http://www.bclaws.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/96133_01
See attached survey.
An institute may be incorporated under this Act for one or more of the following purposes:
(1) To improve conditions of rural life so that settlement may be permanent and prosperous.
(2) To promote the theory and practice of agriculture, horticulture, arboriculture
(3) To arrange on behalf of its members for the purchase, distribution or sale of commodities, supplies or products;
(4) To act generally on behalf of its members in all matters incidental to agricultural pursuits and rural development;
(5) To promote home economics, public health, child welfare, education and better schools.
· Identify one thing that you have not done that the BFI is supposed to do, or one thing that you haven’t been doing well, and pledge to improve performance in this area. Identify measurable benchmarks for knowing whether improvement has been accomplished.
· What is our vision of BFI future? · What will distinguish BFI from similar organizations? · What results and/or benefits can the members or clients of the organization expect?
Future of BFI
· Board Members –Important that you pay attention, ask useful questions, and provide useful ideas, time and energy.
· As volunteers are often looking for something in it for them – what is in it for current members and the next generation, especially at the Board Level? Of people who will take a year- long commitment. Can we put funds towards education of board members? Or are there organizations already in place that we can partner with to achieve goals.
Big Wins & Lessons
The 2019 Fall Fair was very successful in terms of making a comeback. The demographics indicate a ten-year potential for education of agriculture, horticulture and arboriculture. With additional initiatives showcased throughout the years.
Goal Setting
Plans and Measurable outcomes: Board meetings were meant for bright, articulate, creative people to identify what the data say and strategize on how to use that data to make the organization even better at fulfilling its mission.
